Product Overview

HyperTape
Distributed system management, network storage management, and network backup and recovery are becoming strategic aspects of business planning today. Protecting mission-critical data is becoming even more complex as technology advances, companies expand, and data volumes increase. To address these challenges, organizations need a high-performance backup and restore solution - one that provides online or offline backup, and one that supports increasingly heterogeneous environments.

Enterprise Backup
The HyperTape network management suite performs backup and restore of data, databases, and applications. It provides easy, economical access to large capacity, high-performance data storage via three-tier open architecture, centralized management, distributed robotic control, and media management capabilities.

HyperTape provides automated, unattended backup of PCs, workstations, departmental servers, and enterprise systems across networks, or to local tape drives or tape libraries. It can handle a virtually unlimited number of concurrent sessions between any number of network nodes. In addition, it serves the broadest possible mix of clients, servers, and storage media devices, and adapts easily as your infrastructure changes. HyperTape scales to an almost unlimited number of nodes, due to its unique, separate control node and multiple backup server approach.

Robotic Control
HyperTape supports an extensive array of magnetic storage media and tape libraries through its own or third party robot managers, providing open interfaces so you may tailor solutions to your unique requirements.

Media Management
The HyperTape network management suite includes OpenMedia, an optional media management system that provides enterprise-wide media management for volume, saveset, and device management under robotics or human operator control. At the heart of OpenMedia is a database providing a model of your enterprise, including media resources and their management policies. The system utilizes object oriented database technologies to maintain and manipulate objects which represent physical items in the enterprise, such as tapes and hosts, or abstract entities such as media pools, localities, and user privileges. OpenMedia's client/server architecture allows for distributed implementations of backup and storage management strategies at multiple locations, across a worldwide computing enterprise.

Storage Area Networks (SAN)
OpenMedia's model was specifically designed to allow for multi-hosted devices - devices that can be accessed by multiple hosts. OpenMedia will automatically serialize the access to SAN devices (or to OpenVMS Cluster attached devices).

NAS - NDMP Agent
HyperTape supports the backup of Network Attached Storage servers through NDMP. NAS servers can be backed up either file by file of the network, or via NDMP directly to tape devices connected to the NDMP based server. HyperTape supports the backup of NDMP servers to other remote NDMP servers. The tape devices can be directly attached (SCSI) or Fibre Channel, and they can be in HyperTape controlled tape libraries which may be shared with other servers.

Enhanced Scheduling Option
You can schedule backup functionality and media management facilities as an inherent part of the HyperTape product.
